Katerina Koutsogianni was born in Heraklion, Crete, where she lives today. She had been working for 27 years at the Department of Foreign Trade of the National Bank of Greece. In 2003, Mrs Koutsogianni, as a patient with rheumatoid arthritis from a very young age, in cooperation with other patients with rheumatic diseases, founded the Association of Patients with Rheumatic disease of Crete (The Arthritis Foundation of Crete) where she was elected as President for four consecutive terms.

She is active in the area of ​​patient organizations with rheumatic diseases both in Greece and abroad, enriching her experience with participation in international conferences and seminars. She contributes to the development of the activities of the Association to raise awareness for the state of the seriousness of rheumatic diseases and to ensure better quality of health care and patients’ access to all available treatments.

The last five years she is also actively involved in patients’ with chronic diseases initiatives in Greece, aiming to achieve patients’ involvement in health decision making .She is a member of the Steering Committee of “Patients in Power” platform and Vice president of the PanHellenic Federation of Patients, parents, caregivers and friends of children with Rheumatic Diseases Associations “ REUMAZEIN”.

Juan Fuertes Juan Fuertes is the Advocacy and Access Manager of PHA Europe, the umbrella organization for pulmonary hypertension patients' organization. He is also a Board Member of the European Patients' Forum and Council Member of the European Lung Foundation.
Carmen Paun Carmen Paun is a health care reporter for POLITICO, based in Brussels. Before joining POLITICO, she was a freelancer covering regulatory and international affairs out of the EU capital. She has reported on a wide range of topics, from money laundering to food production to chemicals, for media organizations such as International News Services and Chemical Watch.
